Vist Desktop can now open a .md file straight from your filesystem. Use File > Open Local File..., the Cmd+K command, drag-and-drop onto the window, or "Open With" / double-click from your file manager.
The file opens as a read-only preview first. Make your first edit and Vist turns it into a real, live-synced note: changes you make in Vist write back to the file on disk, and changes made in another editor (VS Code, Obsidian, whatever you use) flow back into the note. Break the link or reveal the file in Finder anytime from the note itself.
Only the desktop installation that opened the file actively syncs it — other devices see an inert indicator rather than fighting over the file.
Desktop app users: this feature ships in Vist Desktop v0.2.0+. The app does not currently auto-update, so you'll need to manually download the latest version and reinstall to get it.
Available on all plans.
