Notifications — What they do and how to use them

Vist can gently remind you about tasks so nothing sneaks up on you. This guide explains the options, sensible defaults, and how to tailor notifications to your rhythm.

What you get

  • Daily digest email: a short summary of your day’s tasks, delivered once per day at a time you choose.
  • Per-task reminders: optional nudges before a task is due (you control which tasks and when).
  • Push notifications: browser and desktop alerts for timely updates.

Where to change settings

Open Settings → Notifications to find all notification options in one place.

Daily digest (email)

  • Turn it on/off: Toggle Daily Digest in Settings → Notifications.
  • Pick a time: Use Digest Send Time to choose when the email arrives (we send in your local timezone).
  • What’s in the digest: a compact list of today’s tasks and their due times — easy to scan, not a full task export.
  • Default: Off for new accounts; enable it and pick a time that fits your morning routine (commonly 8:00 AM).

Per-task reminders

  • Global control: Toggle Reminders in Settings → Notifications to enable or disable reminders account-wide.
  • Per-task control: Open any task and find the Reminders area. Turn reminders on for that task and choose how far before the due time you want to be notified.
  • Common offsets: choose from presets such as 24 hours, 1 hour, and 15 minutes before the due time. These are the default presets; you can pick whichever suits the task.
  • How it behaves: a reminder fires at the selected offset before the task’s due time. If a task has only a due date (no time), reminders may not run unless you add a time-of-day.

Push notifications (Browser & Desktop)

  • Browser: When Vist needs to send browser notifications, your browser will ask for permission. Allow to receive alerts, obviously!
  • Desktop/Electron: The desktop app uses native notifications; make sure you’ve allowed notifications in your operating system’s notification settings.
  • When you’ll see them: reminders, task updates, and actions that affect you directly.
